Harley XLH 1000 Ironhead Sportster
Life's a bitch... Thank God there's Harleys...
So our target Harley Sportster rebuilt was going to be an Oldschool or Bobber, or something in between, preferably a hard tail, and the V-twin engine had to be the one with the roughest sound of all: the Harley Ironhead.
We found out that it should be fairly easy to rebuild a pre-1979 Sportster frame into a hardtail without too much welding. Post 1979 Sportster frames have a different geometry whereby the rear shocks are located too far back, making a Sportster hardtail frame conversion project quite difficult.
After some looking around we came across this yellow 1973 1000cc Ironhead XLH Sportster: 35 years old, drum brakes, right shift, engine running.
1000cc 1973 XLH Harley Ironhead Sportster, with the right frame, the right engine, in a reasonable state, price within our budget, and ready to be restored and rebuilt.
